Cases in Rehab

The Sonoma CHANGE Program is a community based, 501(c)3 non-profit organization that assists the Sonoma County Animal Care and Control Department with equine abuse, abandonment, and neglect cases.

The CHANGE Program helps horses connected to Animal Control cases with services such as transportation, foster housing, veterinary care, rehabilitation and adoption.

Due to pending legal or criminal matters, the identity of some horses must remain private. This means that CHANGE sometimes has horses in foster care that cannot appear on the website. Please check back periodically for changes, or find us on Facebook for the latest news.

Please see the Available for Adoption section to learn more and adopt our rehabilitated horses.

On March 22, 2024, CHANGE was contacted by Sonoma County Animal Services to assist with the seizure of two horses due to neglect.

So far, both Tate and Emma appear to be sound and we believe the sky’s the limit as they both continue on their journey toward full health.  We are excited for their future and while they’re not yet ready to be adopted, we suggest you send in an adoption application (click HERE for the adoption application form) as soon as possible as these two are going to be amazing!

TATE

Tate is a stallion, approximately 10 years old, with a sweet personality and a beautiful face.  One of our amazing foster barns agreed to take him with almost no notice and has done a remarkable job so far of nursing him back to health.
In addition to receiving vaccinations, worming, dental & farrier care, Tate will be castrated soon.

EMMA

Emma is approximately 5 years old with the sweetest face and has already shown us that she is very smart and eager to please.  She spent some weeks gaining weight at another of our amazing foster barns (also with only an hour notice) and is now with a wonderful local trainer who is giving Emma a wonderful foundation.
In addition to receiving vaccinations, worming, dental & farrier care, Emma is receiving a course of Ulcergard as it is suspected that she has ulcers, as is often the case in horses who’ve been starved.  She’s otherwise happy and is slowly gaining weight.
